Instagram marketing for car dealerships in Canada

Social media marketing for auto dealerships, in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati and English.

Instagram Reels for dealerships, about the decision rather than the vehicle. One Edmonton lot stopped posting cars, started telling buyers which ones to avoid, and its reach went up 30.5 times in nine weeks. Here is the whole account, before and after.

Every number comes from one account, Legend Auto Sales of Edmonton, counted only across the 24 reels we produced between 3 February 2026 and 7 April 2026. This is a closed engagement. The lift compares those reels against the 5 the dealership had posted itself before we started, which averaged 2,583 views; the profile is public, so both halves can be checked. Statics and carousels are excluded because nobody has confirmed they were ours. Everything here is organic, with zero ad spend behind it.

The problem

Why most auto dealership Instagram marketing gets ignored

A walkaround of a 2021 Sonata. A price card. Another one sold. It is the same feed at every lot in the country, and it is aimed at the people already shopping this week, who are a rounding error next to the people who simply drive.

We know what that content does on this exact account, because the dealership posted it themselves for eight months before we started. Five reels, 2,583 views on average.

Then the subject changed. Which brands cost you in repairs. What a dealership loan really prices at once you read the paper. How the curbers scam works and what it looks like on Marketplace. Twenty-four reels, 78,769 views on average, 1.9 million in nine weeks. Same lot, same owner, same phone camera.

A first car in a new country is bought with the whole family in the room, and the reels that travelled here are the ones told the way that conversation actually happens, in whichever language it happens in.

The walkaround and the price card

Every dealership feed in the country is an inventory list in video form. On this account that content averaged 2,583 views before we started, and the two inventory reels posted during the run averaged 6,973. It reaches the handful of people already shopping this week and nobody else.

Selling to the 2% who are buying now

At any moment almost nobody is in the market for a car, but almost everybody drives one. A feed aimed only at this week's buyers is aimed at the smallest possible audience. The reel about which brands to avoid did 631,796 views because it is useful to a person who is not buying anything today and will remember who told them.

Reach with nowhere to put it

The opposite failure, and the one this dealership actually hit. A viral reel ignores your service area, so an Edmonton lot started fielding calls from Brampton. That is a good problem only if you have planned for it, because inventory, financing and delivery are all local.

Case study

One dealership, one account, and a clean break in the middle of it. Legend Auto Sales posted its own inventory reels for eight months, then ran nine weeks with us. The profile is public, so both halves can be checked against each other.

Which auto dealership reels actually get watched?

All 24 reels from the run, grouped by subject and ranked by average views. Two of them were about cars on the lot, posted in the same weeks as the rest, which makes them the fairest comparison on the page.

Advice beats inventory by about 12 to one, 85,296 views against 6,973, on the same account in the same nine weeks. Telling someone which cars will cost them money is the single strongest thing a dealer can post, which is uncomfortable, because it means the best content for a dealership is the content that talks people out of the wrong car.

Views are Instagram plays, checked on 17 August 2026 against a full scrape of the Reels tab. Every reel was read and labelled by hand. Statics and carousels on the account are excluded throughout.

The client

The dealership behind these numbers

Auto is a newer vertical for us than real estate or law, and this is the account it was built on. One dealership, a closed engagement, and a public profile you can open and scroll to the exact week the content changed.

A closed engagement, run from February to April 2026. Follower count checked on 17 August 2026. The full account, reel by reel, is in the Legend Auto case study, and the shorter write-up is here.

Auto is the vertical where the reach travels furthest past the client's own city. The same team also runs our realtors, mortgage agents, insurance brokers, law firms, restaurants, car detailers and AI companies. Each page carries its own numbers, scoped to the months we ran those accounts.

What we do for dealerships

What a dealership social media agency actually does

Most agencies hand you a content calendar and wish you luck. We research who buys from you, write the scripts around your personality, direct the shoot, build the creative, publish it, and turn the engagement into organic inquiries. One 90 minute ideation call, one shoot day on your lot, and a monthly performance review is all we need from you.

  1. Audience research and content ideation for dealerships

We work out who actually buys from you before a word gets written: how far people already travel to your lot, which community sends the referrals, and whether your money is in financing, trade-ins or volume. Then a recorded 60 to 90 minute ideation call with whoever is going on camera. On this account that call is where every reel came from, because the owner had spent years watching buyers make the same expensive mistakes and had never said so out loud.

  2. Dealership reel scripts about the buyer, not the stock

Every reel is written in Hinglish, Punjabi, Gujarati or English, and the subject is a decision rather than a vehicle: which brands cost the most to keep on the road, what a dealership loan actually prices at, when leasing through a business makes sense, how a curber operates on Marketplace, what a VIN check would have caught. Inventory gets its share, but it is not what carries the account.

  3. Video shoot direction on your own lot

One shoot day a month covers the content, filmed at the dealership because the cars behind you are the credential. Two hours, and we direct line by line. Dealers are usually easy to shoot: they already explain this stuff ten times a week, they have just never done it to a camera.

  4. Reel editing built for watch time

Captions, pacing, hook framing and sound design tuned for how people actually watch Reels: muted, one-handed, half asleep at midnight. Burned-in subtitles carry more weight in Hinglish than in English, because most people read the line before they hear it. A price or an interest rate on screen has to be readable in the second it appears. Read our breakdown of the editing mistakes that lose a viewer early.

  5. Turning Instagram views into people on the lot

Every reel ends in a single keyword CTA. Someone comments the keyword, an automated DM goes out in seconds, and the conversation lands in a CRM tagged by source and by city. The city tag matters more here than anywhere else we work: national reach is only worth something once you can see which enquiries are inside your own drive time and which are not.

  6. Meta and Google ads for dealerships

    Optional

Growth stays organic. For dealerships that also want paid reach we plan and run Meta campaigns and Google ads, and we run SEO on Uplift AI, our AI SEO partner. This is the vertical where the pairing matters most: the organic advice reel travels nationally whether you want it to or not, and a geo-targeted paid layer is how you pull the enquiries back inside your service area. The method is on our Meta lead ads page.

Where we work

Dealership marketing by city and region

This is the only vertical we run where the reach routinely lands outside the client's province. A reel about which cars to avoid is useful to everyone who drives, so it travels, and the interesting question stops being how to get reach and becomes what to do with the reach you did not ask for.

Edmonton and Alberta

Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Fort McMurray

Where this account was run from. A used car market shaped by winters and long commutes, and a buyer who cares more about what a vehicle costs to keep on the road than what it looks like on the forecourt.

Legend Auto Sales, car dealership in Edmonton and Alberta
Legend Auto Sales

Greater Toronto Area

Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Milton, Oakville

Where the calls came from, unprompted, eighteen hundred miles from the lot. Where most of our own roster works, and the market where financing comes up first, because building Canadian credit from nothing is the question underneath most of those calls.

The rest of Canada, run remotely

Winnipeg, Surrey, Vancouver, Hamilton, London, Windsor

Everything except the shoot day is remote in our other verticals, and an advice reel does not know where your lot is. The work is the same anywhere; what changes is how much paid support you need to keep the enquiries inside your own service area.

Questions dealers ask

Dealership content marketing questions, answered

The questions that come up on almost every first call, answered the way we answer them on the call: who goes on camera, whether to keep posting inventory, what happens when the reach leaves your province, and how long enquiries take.

Somebody at the dealership does. Every reel on this page is the owner talking straight to camera about something a buyer is nervous about, and that is not incidental: the reason a stranger trusts a used-car dealer enough to drive across a province is that they have watched him talk for nine weeks. It does not have to be the owner, but it has to be a person, and it has to be the same person every time.

Not the cars. Across the 24 reels in this run, the ones telling a buyer which cars to avoid averaged 244,396 views, financing and leasing explainers averaged 72,373, scam breakdowns averaged 21,901, and the two reels about cars actually sitting on the lot averaged 6,973. That is about 12 to one between advice and inventory, measured on the same account in the same nine weeks.

No, and this is where dealerships get it backwards in both directions. Inventory posts are how somebody who already follows you sees that the RAV4 is in. What they cannot do is reach anybody new, because the only people who want to see a walkaround are the handful already shopping this week. Advice content is what fills the top of the funnel; inventory is what converts it. Post both, and do not expect the second to do the first one's job.

Abhijit told us the calls started arriving from Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, which is eighteen hundred miles from an Edmonton lot, and that he opened a second location in Ontario in response. That is his account of it, not a number we can measure from outside, so treat it as what the client told us rather than as a statistic. What we can measure is on this page: the reach went up 30.5 times and it came from across the country rather than from Edmonton.

Only if you are ready for it, and this is the honest catch in the story above. Inventory, financing partners, safety certification and delivery are all local, so national demand arrives faster than a single lot can serve it. For most dealers the right answer is a geo-targeted paid layer on top of the organic reach, so the advice reels build the name nationally and the spend concentrates the enquiries inside your own drive time.

Yes, and this is the part dealers most often assume does not. In Ontario every dealer and salesperson has to be registered with OMVIC, and under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act an advertisement is any inducement to buy or lease a vehicle, which explicitly includes social media. Alberta works the same way through AMVIC, whose advertising code of conduct is a legal requirement rather than guidance. The rule that catches people is all-in price advertising. If a reel names a price, that price has to include every fee you intend to charge: freight, pre-delivery inspection, administration and documentation, and in Alberta accessories, attached optional equipment and transportation too. In Ontario you may add HST and the actual licensing cost on top, and nothing else. In Alberta it is GST and financing costs. All-in pricing was among the most common violations OMVIC found in 2023, so it is worth getting right before you post rather than after. In practice it shapes what we script: most of what carries a dealership account is advice rather than inventory, and on the reels that do name a price we build the all-in figure into the script and the on-screen graphic instead of burying a disclaimer in the caption.

Hinglish, Punjabi, Gujarati and English. Several of the reels that travelled furthest here open on a specific person in a specific city, a Punjabi man in Brampton who bought a Mustang on a loan, and land because the story is told the way it would be told at home. Buying a first car in a new country is a family conversation, not a solo one.

This account had 2,523 followers and the biggest reel did 631,796 views. Reach in this vertical is not gated on follower count, because the audience for a video about which cars to avoid is everyone who drives, not the people who already follow a dealership. That is also why the ceiling is high here compared with a vertical where the audience is only people transacting this month.

36 videos, because we produce 12 a month. The honest shape of this run is that the median reel did 26,071 views while the average was 78,769, so a few reels carried it and most sat well below them. You cannot pick which one goes. You can only make enough of them, consistently enough, that one gets the chance. Enquiries follow the reach by a few weeks.

Both, and the same team makes both. Every view and comment reported on this page is organic, with zero ad spend behind it. Separately, for dealerships that want paid reach, we run Meta campaigns and Google ads, and in this vertical the pairing matters more than most: the organic reel builds the name across the country and the paid layer pulls the enquiries back inside your own service area.

Ask us before you sign. We keep deliberate distance between dealerships selling to the same buyers in the same city, and we will tell you honestly on the call whether your area is taken.

What does social media marketing for auto dealerships actually get you?

Social media marketing for auto dealerships works when the content is about the decision rather than the vehicle. That is what 24 reels and 1.9 million views in nine weeks came down to on one Edmonton lot: the owner on camera telling buyers which cars cost money to keep, scripts in the language the family is arguing in, and a CRM that tags the enquiry by city so you can see how much of the reach you can actually serve. Organic carries it, and Meta and Google campaigns pull the demand back inside your drive time. The whole run is written up in the Legend Auto breakdown, and the same method built our law firm roster and our realtor roster.
